SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 466
 
  In Memory
  of
  Alex Vidal
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Alex Vidal,
  who died February 27, 2007, at the age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, Alex Vidal was born November 13, 1929, in
  San Antonio; he served his country in the United States Navy
  from 1948 to 1950; and
         WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Vidal returned
  to San Antonio and joined the San Antonio Fire Department; he
  paved the way for others in his family to become firefighters,
  including his brother, two of his sons, and two nephews; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Vidal had an illustrious 44-year career with
  the department; among the newsworthy fires he helped fight were
  the Tower Life Building fire and the Produce Row fire, which
  nearly leveled Produce Row, where Market Square now sits; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Vidal spent most of his career at Station 1
  and at Station 38, from which he retired in 1994 with the rank
  of captain; and
         WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, strength, and compassion,
  who gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, kindness, and
  dauntless spirit will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was
  an inspiration to others, and although he will be deeply missed
  by his family and friends, his spirit will abide in their hearts
  for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Alex Vidal: his sons, Robert E. Vidal, Alex A. Vidal, Jr.,
  and Ruben A. Vidal; his daughters, Maria Elena Vidal Quintana
  and Diana Vidal Andrade; his sister, Gloria Garcia; his brothers,
  Henry A. Vidal, Jr., and Roland R. Vidal; and his 12 grandchildren;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Alex Vidal.
