SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 469
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Mr. Ronnie Brooks, who is retiring as director of the |
|
|
TRiO Programs at Texas A&M University--Commerce on August 31, 2007, |
|
|
after 32 years of loyal service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brooks began his career with the TRiO Programs |
|
|
in 1975, and has served as its director since 1986; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During his career, he has served as chair of the |
|
|
Council for Opportunity in Education and as president of the |
|
|
Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brooks earned an associate's degree from |
|
|
Henderson County Junior College and a bachelor's degree in speech |
|
|
pathology from East Texas State University; he attended the |
|
|
Southern Bible Institute of Dallas for postgraduate studies; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He is an active leader in his community; his |
|
|
accomplishments include serving as associate pastor of |
|
|
Mount Moriah Temple Baptist Church, chaplain for the Hunt County |
|
|
Juvenile Detention Center, president of the Commerce branch of |
|
|
the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, |
|
|
and second vice president of the Kiwanis Club in Commerce; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brooks has been an outstanding leader and has |
|
|
earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues and his staff |
|
|
members; his presence with the TRiO Programs at Texas A&M |
|
|
University--Commerce will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Ronnie Brooks for his many |
|
|
years of exceptional service to the TRiO Programs at Texas A&M |
|
|
University--Commerce and extend to him best wishes for the |
|
|
retirement years ahead; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
