SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 486
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Ward County in recognizing March 20, 2007, as
Ward County Day at the State Capitol; and
       WHEREAS, Organized in 1892, Ward County was named for
Thomas W. Ward, a renowned soldier in the Texas Revolution; and
       WHEREAS, Ward County is located in the heart of the Permian
Basin and plays an important role in the nation's oil and natural
gas production; and
       WHEREAS, Ward County is home to the Million Barrel Museum,
which centers around an old oil-storage facility and includes
displays of antique oil field equipment, the first Ward County
jail, and an amphitheater; and
       WHEREAS, The Monahans Sandhills State Historic Park is a
unique site consisting of nearly 4,000 acres of sand dunes on
which to camp, hike, and sand surf; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the citizens of Ward
County on their county's many contributions to our state and
extend best wishes to all attending Ward County Day at the State
Capitol; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the citizens of Ward County as an expression of high regard from
the Texas Senate.
