SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 487
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Culberson County in celebrating March 20, 2007, as
Culberson County Day at the State Capitol; and
       WHEREAS, Culberson County is named for David Browning
Culberson, a noted lawyer and soldier in the Civil War; and
       WHEREAS, The county seat of Van Horn sits at the crossroads
of the Texas Mountain Trail; it was organized as a stop on the
historic Old Spanish Trail for those traveling from San Antonio
to California in the mid-19th century; it is a popular stop on
Interstate 10 for families as they traverse the country; and
       WHEREAS, Culberson County's citizens are taking part in
cutting-edge technology; the county is home to one of the first
wind-energy projects in the state and to Blue Origin, a company
that launched its first subscale vehicle in November of 2006; and
       WHEREAS, Culberson County is also the location of part of
Guadalupe Mountains National Park and of Guadalupe Peak, the
highest point in Texas at 8,751 feet; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby proclaim March 20, 2007, Culberson
County Day at the State Capitol and extend best wishes to the
county's delegation for a memorable visit; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the citizens of Culberson County as an expression of high regard
from the Texas Senate.
