SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 493

of Agriculture Development Council are gathering in
Austin to attend the semiannual meeting of the council on
March 20 through 22, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1981 with the purpose of supporting and
advising the College of Agriculture and Life Science, the College
of Agriculture Development Council later broadened its focus to
include resource development, and by the mid-1980s, it had
established numerous endowed scholarships and chairs and funded
several professorships and fellowships; traditionally, the
council has also played a role in facilitating the relationship
between the university and the agricultural community, and it was
instrumental in the creation of a new Animal Science Teaching,
Research and Extension Center, which opened in the 1990s; and
WHEREAS, Today, the College of Agriculture Development
Council works to promote Texas A&M as the world's premier
agriculture institution through coordinated efforts in the
areas of gifts, student services, staff advisory, research and
outreach service, membership, and public policy; council members
can be especially proud of their record of funding, which
includes support for student organizations, as well as events and
programs such as the Texas Agricultural and Natural Resource
Summit Initiative and the Agricultural and Natural Resource
Policy Congressional Intern Program; moreover, the council has
helped generate more than $2.2 million for student scholarships
and endowments; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, the College of Agriculture
Development Council has contributed greatly to the success and
growth of the College of Agriculture and Life Science at
Texas A&M University, and its outstanding efforts truly merit
special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby honor the College of Agriculture
