SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 498
 
  In Memory
  of
  Robert J. Dowdy
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Master Sergeant Robert J. Dowdy of
  Cleveland, Ohio, who died March 23, 2003, at the age of 38 while
  serving his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
         WHEREAS, Robert J. Dowdy was serving in Iraq with the 507th
  Army Ordnance Maintenance Company based at Fort Bliss; he and
  other members of his unit were ambushed by Iraqi forces in
  Nasiriyah after they stopped to repair stalled vehicles; and
         WHEREAS, Robert followed his older brother into the
  military and had 18 years of service; he was married and had a
  teenage daughter, who was his pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Dowdy exhibited exceptional
  courage and dedication to duty in the daunting challenges he
  faced while serving his country in a foreign land at a time of
  extreme danger; and
         WHEREAS, The State of Texas and the nation are grateful for
  his selfless service and his patriotism; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Master
  Sergeant Robert J. Dowdy and extend sincere condolences to his
  bereaved family; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
  expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and
  that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Master Sergeant Robert J. Dowdy.
