SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 503
 
  In Memory
  of
  Howard Johnson II
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Private First Class Howard Johnson II
  of Mobile, Alabama, who died on March 23, 2003, at the age of
  21 while serving his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
         WHEREAS, Howard Johnson was serving in Iraq with the
  507th Army Ordnance Maintenance Company based at Fort Bliss;
  he and other members of his unit were ambushed by Iraqi forces
  in Nasiriyah after they stopped to repair stalled vehicles; and
         WHEREAS, Called "Junior" by his family, Howard worked in
  a grocery store while a student in high school; he was a member
  of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps; he chose active duty
  in the army after his graduation; and
         WHEREAS, He was an honorable soldier who served his
  country faithfully and courageously; his patriotism and devotion
  to duty were a source of inspiration to his fellow soldiers; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Private First Class Howard Johnson II and extend sincere
  condolences to his bereaved family; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
  as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory
  of Private First Class Howard Johnson II.
