SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 506

Gussie M. Jones |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Captain Gussie M. Jones, who died |
|
|
March 7, 2004, at the age of 41 while serving her country in Iraq; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Captain Jones was assigned to the army's 31st |
|
|
Combat Support Hospital, based out of Fort Bliss; she died in the |
|
|
Baghdad hospital where she worked as a surgical nurse; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She had served at the William Beaumont Army |
|
|
Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit, where she was known for |
|
|
being maternal and caring to the nurses with whom she worked; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Our nation is fortunate to have men and women |
|
|
whose love for their country inspires them to take up military |
|
|
service, and Captain Jones embodied the highest ideals of the |
|
|
United States Army; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Captain Jones demonstrated unwavering resolve and |
|
|
courage in the performance of her duties, and she will long be |
|
|
remembered for her generous spirit and her many accomplishments; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Captain |
|
|
Gussie M. Jones and extend sincere condolences to all those who |
|
|
mourn her passing; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
|
day, it do so in memory of Captain Gussie M. Jones. |
