SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 507
 
  In Memory
  of
  Brandon U. Sloan
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Private Brandon U. Sloan of
  Cleveland, Ohio, who died on March 23, 2003, at the age of 19
  while serving his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
         WHEREAS, Brandon Sloan was serving in Iraq with the 507th
  Army Ordnance Maintenance Company based at Fort Bliss; he and
  other members of his unit were ambushed by Iraqi forces in
  Nasiriyah after they stopped to repair stalled vehicles; and
         WHEREAS, Brandon grew up as a preacher's son and exhibited
  early in his life exceptional strength and a special personality;
  he had a passion for sports and played defensive lineman on his
  high school football team; he left high school in his senior year
  to join the United States Army; and
         WHEREAS, Private Sloan was an honorable soldier who served
  his country faithfully and courageously; the State of Texas and
  the nation are eternally grateful for his service and his
  unwavering patriotism; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Private Brandon U. Sloan and extend sincere condolences to his
  bereaved family; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
  expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that
  when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Private Brandon U. Sloan.
