SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 516
 
  In Memory
  of
  J.D. Strickel
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of San Antonio in mourning the loss of J.D. "Shady" Strickel, who
  died March 7, 2007, at the age of 78; and
         WHEREAS, Shady Strickel was born in Beaumont on March 8, 1928;
  he attended Saint Edward's Academy in Austin and earned a
  bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University
  in 1949; a devoted alumnus, he recognized that Texas A&M University
  taught him many valuable skills, such as discipline, loyalty, and
  the ability to create and maintain enduring friendships; and
         WHEREAS, He proudly served his country as a lieutenant
  during the Korean War; he was a co-owner of Walsh and Strickel
  Construction and later owned Strickel Construction Company; in
  1980, he pursued a different line of business and opened the
  exclusive Martini Club; and
         WHEREAS, Shady Strickel was a founding member of Aggie Diehards
  and the Martini Foundation; he was an active member of the 12th Man
  Club and the Touchdown Club; he was well known for his infectious
  laughter, for his daily luncheons, and for always making time for
  his friends; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he will long be remembered with affection and
  admiration by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of J.D. Strickel: his wife, Betty; his daughters,
  Jan Sheffield and Linda Godinez; his son, Jeff Strickel; and his
  grandsons, Austin and Colby Sheffield and Ethan and Dylan Godinez;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
  so in memory of J.D. Strickel.
