SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 518

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Reverend Louis Zbinden, who has been named a Community Champion by City Year San Antonio; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Zbinden founded the San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries; he was named a Community Champion for his inspirational legacy of caring for those who are homeless and most in need; and

WHEREAS, City Year San Antonio, a part of AmeriCorps, is a nonprofit organization in which City Year corps members, who range in age from 17 to 24, dedicate a year to full-time community service and leadership development; and

WHEREAS, City Year San Antonio is hosting the Champions and Hidden Heroes Annual Dinner on February 28, 2007; the event is being held to raise funds for City Year programs and to honor those who have made enduring contributions to San Antonio; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Louis Zbinden is an idealist who has made lasting contributions to his community; through his organization, San Antonio Metropolitan Ministry, he offers assistance with dignity and compassion to those persons who are homeless, and he has enriched the spirit of the city; and

WHEREAS, He is an exemplary citizen of San Antonio, and he deserves recognition for his service to the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend the Reverend Louis Zbinden for his commitment to helping others and congratulate him on being selected a Community Champion by City Year San Antonio; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. Wentworth
