SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 519

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize civic leader Joci Straus, who has been designated a Community Champion by City Year San Antonio; and

WHEREAS, Joci Straus is chairman of the board for the United Way of Bexar County and a leader in the revitalization of the Majestic Theatre; she was selected as a Community Champion for her outstanding leadership with the United Way of Bexar County and for her generous philanthropy in the arts, women's health, preservation, and literacy; and

WHEREAS, City Year San Antonio, a part of AmeriCorps, is a nonprofit organization that educates and inspires more than 15,000 children each year; City Year corps members, who range in age from 17 to 24, dedicate a year to full-time community service and leadership development; and

WHEREAS, City Year San Antonio is hosting the Champions and Hidden Heroes Annual Dinner on February 28, 2007, to raise funds for City Year programs and to honor those who have made lasting contributions to San Antonio; and

WHEREAS, Joci Straus is an idealist who has made enduring contributions to the City of San Antonio, and she deserves recognition for her service to the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend Joci Straus for her dedication to the citizens of San Antonio and congratulate her on being named a Community Champion by City Year San Antonio; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. Wentworth
