SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 520
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Jerry Neal, who is retiring on March 31, 2007, after 26 |
|
|
years of loyal service as the chief of the Amarillo Police |
|
|
Department; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Chief Neal joined the department on February 16, 1981, |
|
|
during a time of dissention; during his first two years in office, |
|
|
he successfully confronted and resolved personnel and procedural |
|
|
issues at the department; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He turned the department around through several |
|
|
innovative programs and the development of new units; the early |
|
|
years of his tenure saw the creation of the Potter-Randall |
|
|
Special Crimes Unit, which has had a high rate of success in |
|
|
solving homicide cases; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under his direction, the department also formed |
|
|
the Drive-By Shooting Response Team, the Traffic Investigative |
|
|
Unit, and the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving |
|
|
Unit, which conducts directed patrols in specific neighborhoods |
|
|
and focuses on quality-of-life issues; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Chief Neal has been known |
|
|
to stop and help police officers, which is an example of his |
|
|
generosity and his approach to members of his staff; a talented |
|
|
and resourceful individual, he has handled his many |
|
|
responsibilities with consummate skill, dedication, and |
|
|
consideration for others; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An exemplary law enforcement officer, Chief Neal |
|
|
is admired and respected by his colleagues and by the citizens of |
|
|
Amarillo, and his presence at the Amarillo Police Department will |
|
|
be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Jerry Neal on his exceptional |
|
|
years of service as the chief of the Amarillo Police Department |
|
|
and his many contributions to our state and extend to him best |
|
|
wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
