Janis Russo |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
|
citizens of Cross Roads in mourning the loss of Janis Russo, |
|
|
who died January 16, 2007; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Janis Russo was born in North Carolina in 1941 and |
|
|
grew up in North Carolina and Florida; she married Tony Russo on |
|
|
January 3, 1960, and the couple moved from Florida to Texas in |
|
|
1976; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After living in Richardson for many years, |
|
|
Mrs. Russo moved to Cross Roads, where she came to realize her |
|
|
love of horses and open spaces; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Russo soon became involved in local government |
|
|
and won a seat on the town council in 2002; she served as a member |
|
|
of the Comprehensive Planning Committee and as the head of the |
|
|
Financial Committee and was reelected in 2004 and 2006; her |
|
|
primary focus was on keeping Cross Roads "country"; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Russo had a 35-year professional career with |
|
|
the United States government and retired in 1995; she later |
|
|
served as chief financial officer for Arnold Stone, Incorporated, |
|
|
in Celina; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Russo was active in the Dal-Worth Appaloosa |
|
|
Horse Club, for which she served as president, vice president, |
|
|
and board member; she attended New Hope Baptist Church in |
|
|
Cross Roads; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, |
|
|
she gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and |
|
|
valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
|
bereaved family of Janis Russo; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
|
day, it do so in memory of Janis Russo. |
