SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 536
 
  In Memory
  of
  Janis Russo
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Cross Roads in mourning the loss of Janis Russo,
  who died January 16, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Janis Russo was born in North Carolina in 1941 and
  grew up in North Carolina and Florida; she married Tony Russo on
  January 3, 1960, and the couple moved from Florida to Texas in
  1976; and
         WHEREAS, After living in Richardson for many years,
  Mrs. Russo moved to Cross Roads, where she came to realize her
  love of horses and open spaces; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Russo soon became involved in local government
  and won a seat on the town council in 2002; she served as a member
  of the Comprehensive Planning Committee and as the head of the
  Financial Committee and was reelected in 2004 and 2006; her
  primary focus was on keeping Cross Roads "country"; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Russo had a 35-year professional career with
  the United States government and retired in 1995; she later
  served as chief financial officer for Arnold Stone, Incorporated,
  in Celina; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Russo was active in the Dal-Worth Appaloosa
  Horse Club, for which she served as president, vice president,
  and board member; she attended New Hope Baptist Church in
  Cross Roads; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion,
  she gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and
  valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Janis Russo; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Janis Russo.
