SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 537
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Lewisville Masonic Lodge 201 on the grand occasion
of its 150th anniversary; and
       WHEREAS, Lewisville was established in 1853, and three
years later, in 1856, a charter was issued by the Masonic Grand
Lodge of Texas for the John B. Denton Lodge 201; the lodge was
named in honor of the eloquent pioneer preacher and lawyer,
John B. Denton, who was known as a dynamic speaker and leader in
Northeast Texas and who was killed in an Indian battle in 1841;
and
       WHEREAS, The membership of the lodge included many of the
founding fathers and early settlers in the Flower Mound and
Lewisville area; members of the lodge participated in local and
state government throughout the 1800s and 1900s and continue to
serve in city government today; and
       WHEREAS, In 1871, members of the lodge erected a building
for lodge meetings that was also used for the first school in the
Lewisville area; in 1890, the name of the John B. Denton Lodge was
changed to the Lewisville Lodge 201; and
       WHEREAS, The local Masonic tradition of encouraging and
supporting the education of the children of Texas endures today;
the lodge sponsored the Race for the Children 5K Run in 2005 and
in 2006 and is planning the third annual race in September of 2007;
the proceeds raised from this event are donated to the Lewisville
Independent School District; and
       WHEREAS, The Lewisville Masonic Lodge 201 is noted for its
superior service to the community and the generosity its members
have exhibited by donating their time and energy to civic and
charitable endeavors; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of Lewisville
Masonic Lodge 201 on the occasion of its 150th anniversary and
extend best wishes to all for the future; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the organization as a memento of this special day.
