SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 540
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Loupot's Bookstores, Incorporated, in College Station |
|
|
on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Judson E. Loupot, Sr. began selling used books, |
|
|
clothes, and other supplies for students from his dormitory room |
|
|
as a means to pay for his education at Texas A&M University; after |
|
|
graduating from the university in 1932, Mr. Loupot, affectionately |
|
|
known as "Old Army Lou," was reluctant to leave College Station; |
|
|
he remained in the community and poured his time and energy into |
|
|
his business, eventually opening three stores; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Judson Loupot died in 1995, but the bookstores |
|
|
have continued to provide outstanding service to the students at |
|
|
Texas A&M University and Blinn College; the business has remained |
|
|
a family business, and Mr. Loupot's daughter, Ann Loupot Daughety, |
|
|
owns the business with the longtime book department manager, |
|
|
Shri Parchure; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Loupot had a charitable heart, and he offered |
|
|
books, money, and food to needy students; and with the same generous |
|
|
spirit shown by Mr. Loupot, the bookstores support scholarships |
|
|
and donate to philanthropic student and community organizations; |
|
|
they have made a commitment to encourage student employees, to |
|
|
deliver trustworthy service through a knowledgeable staff, and |
|
|
to enrich the community by upholding the values of helpfulness, |
|
|
kindness, and respect for others; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend the owners and staff members |
|
|
of Loupot's Bookstores for the exceptional services they provide |
|
|
the students of Texas A&M University and Blinn College and extend |
|
|
to them best wishes for a wonderful 75th anniversary; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an |
|
|
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
