SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 542
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Donald Elementary School of the Lewisville Independent
School District, which has been named a 2006 No Child Left
Behind--Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department
of Education; and
       WHEREAS, Located in Flower Mound, Donald Elementary School
is one of only 26 schools in the state to earn the coveted national
Blue Ribbon designation for the 2005-2006 school year; to earn
this prestigious honor, a school must score in the top 10 percent
of schools in the state on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and
Skills; and
       WHEREAS, In addition to its Blue Ribbon status, Donald
Elementary School has been rated exemplary by the Texas Education
Agency for 10 of the last 11 years; the school has won several
district University Interscholastic League academic competition
awards and regularly receives Gold Performance Acknowledgements
in such areas as attendance, reading-English language arts,
mathematics, and science; and
       WHEREAS, Donald Elementary School has a P.E.P. Squad
(Parents as Educational Partners) volunteer program, in which
over 16,000 volunteer hours were logged during the 2005-2006
school year; D Magazine has identified Donald Elementary School as
a top elementary school in the region numerous times; the school
is celebrating its selection as a 2006 No Child Left Behind--Blue
Ribbon School on March 30, 2007; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend the students, administrators,
teachers, staff members, families, and volunteers of Donald
Elementary School for their hard work and many accomplishments
and extend congratulations to them on the school's distinction as
a 2006 No Child Left Behind--Blue Ribbon School; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the school as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
