SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 550
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Reverend Dr. G.V. Clark, pastor of the Mount Zion
Baptist Church in Austin, on the occasion of his 37th pastoral
celebration; and
       WHEREAS, In honor of Reverend Clark, the church is having a
monthlong celebration in March, which will include a G.V.C. Golf
Tournament, a minister's conference, a church breakfast, and a
music ministry musical; and
       WHEREAS, Reverend Clark serves as the moderator of the
Saint John District Association and as president of the
Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas; he is also
president of the Moderator's Council and president of the State
President's Council of the National Baptist Convention of
America; and
       WHEREAS, He earned a bachelor's degree from
Huston-Tillotson College and a master of divinity degree from
Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest; his graduate
studies were at The University of Texas at Austin and
Andover-Newton Theological Seminary in Massachusetts; he
received an honorary doctorate from Huston-Tillotson College;
and
       WHEREAS, Reverend Clark's previous professional
experiences include teaching for the Round Rock Independent
School District and serving as a chaplain for the Terrell State
Hospital and the Austin State Hospital; he also worked with the
Texas Rehabilitation Commission as a program specialist, a
coordinator of equal opportunity, and a director of the Office of
Civil Rights; and
       WHEREAS, His local and national affiliations include the
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the
Texas Public Employees Association, Boy Scouts of America, Big
Brothers Big Sisters, and the Austin Council on Alcoholism; and
       WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth, Pastor Clark has
performed countless ceremonies and has prayed for and counseled
his church members during their hardships and in times of
bereavement; he is a dedicated and inspirational church leader
who has had a positive influence on the lives of many; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Reverend Dr. G.V. Clark
on his 37 pastoral years and extend to him best wishes for a memorable
celebration; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as a memento of his 37th pastoral celebration.
