SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 586
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Police Chief Virgil Hurt of the City of Caldwell, who
is retiring on March 31, 2007, after more than 30 years of service
as a law enforcement officer in Burleson County; and
       WHEREAS, Chief Hurt began his career in law enforcement as
a Burleson County sheriff's deputy in 1976; he later worked a
short time at the Cameron Police Department before returning to
Burleson County to assume the role of Somerville police chief;
and
       WHEREAS, In 1982, he was hired as a patrol officer for the
Caldwell Police Department; he worked his way through the ranks
and assumed the position of chief of police in 1999; and
       WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful law enforcement
officer, Chief Hurt has handled his many responsibilities with
exceptional efficiency and dedication; under his leadership,
Caldwell has become one of the safest places to live in the
Brazos Valley; and
       WHEREAS, Chief Hurt has served as a mentor to many in the
department; he is admired and respected by his colleagues, and
his presence in the Caldwell Police Department will be greatly
missed; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Police Chief Virgil Hurt on his
exceptional service to the City of Caldwell, Burleson County, and
our state and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years
ahead; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
