SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 592
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride |
|
|
in recognizing April 3, 2007, as Texas Medal of Arts Awards Day at |
|
|
the State Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Medal of Arts Awards are presented by |
|
|
the Texas Cultural Trust Council to celebrate the creative |
|
|
excellence, artistic talents, and valuable contributions by |
|
|
Texans to various artistic disciplines in the state; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Essential to a thriving society, the arts enrich, |
|
|
educate, and broaden the lives of citizens in countless ways, |
|
|
and these awards recognize those individuals and groups who |
|
|
encourage the development of the arts through personal |
|
|
achievement or by providing steadfast support; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The following have been selected to receive |
|
|
Texas Medal of Arts Awards in 2007: Walter Cronkite for Lifetime |
|
|
Achievement; Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for Dance; |
|
|
Paul Baker for Arts Education; Sandra Brown for Literary Arts; |
|
|
Ornette Coleman for Music; Diana and Bill Hobby for Individual |
|
|
Arts Patrons; Judith Ivey for Theatre Arts; Jesús Moroles for |
|
|
Visual Arts; Neiman Marcus for Corporate Arts Patron; the |
|
|
Sid W. Richardson Foundation for Foundation Arts Patron; and |
|
|
Bill Wittliff for Multimedia; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The arts enhance the quality of life in |
|
|
Texas and add to the rich cultural heritage of our state; the |
|
|
artists and art patrons honored by the Texas Medal of Arts Awards |
|
|
help to ensure the future of the arts and art education in our |
|
|
state; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend the recipients of the 2007 Texas |
|
|
Medal of Arts Awards for their outstanding contributions to the |
|
|
cultural life of our state and the advancement of the arts in |
|
|
Texas; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
