SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 600
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Reverend David L. Everson, Sr., for his eight years
of loyal service as pastor of the First Union Baptist Church of
Galveston; and
       WHEREAS, Over the last eight years, Pastor Everson has
ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of
members of his congregation and citizens of the community; and
       WHEREAS, Under Pastor Everson's outstanding leadership,
the church has provided enlightenment, hope, and support to the
Galveston community; in the church's Community Resource Center
children are tutored and adults are assisted in education and
computer literacy; Pastor Everson has developed a Community
Awareness Program that addresses crime problems and possible
solutions, and he has worked with local schools to provide food,
clothing, and bicycles for needy children; and
       WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion,
Pastor Everson has performed countless ceremonies and has prayed
with and counseled his church members in times of hardship and
bereavement and in times of joy and celebration; and
       WHEREAS, Inspirational and dedicated to helping others,
this beloved pastor devotes his time and energy unselfishly to
his congregation and to the people of Galveston; now, therefore,
be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby join the congregation of the First Union
Baptist Church in commending Reverend David L. Everson, Sr., for
his eight years of loyal service to the church and the Galveston
community; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
