SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 609
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Don Strange of Texas, Incorporated, for its selection |
|
|
as a recipient of the 2006 Mutual of America Community Partnership |
|
|
Award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Well known as a giant in the food service industry, |
|
|
Don Strange of Texas, Incorporated, is now being recognized for |
|
|
the major role it has played in helping troubled youths of the |
|
|
San Antonio area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The company joined with Roy Maas' Youth Alternatives, |
|
|
Incorporated, in 2003 to help create the "Helping Hands" program, |
|
|
which promotes nutrition and physical fitness and provides |
|
|
mentorship for troubled youths; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 2006, Don Strange launched a spin-off to the |
|
|
"Helping Hands" program called "Breakfast of Champions"; in |
|
|
this program, young people from Youth Alternatives have monthly |
|
|
breakfast meetings with corporate executives and other community |
|
|
leaders; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During these meetings, executives and community |
|
|
leaders communicate to young people the importance of good nutrition |
|
|
and its impact on having a sound mind and body; the program also |
|
|
emphasizes the values of physical fitness, and Don Strange of Texas |
|
|
has hosted the children of Youth Alternatives at its Hill Country |
|
|
ranch to participate in numerous physical activities; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Don Strange of Texas, Incorporated, |
|
|
for its many contributions to the youth of the San Antonio and |
|
|
extend congratulations to this exemplary company for earning the |
|
|
Mutual of America Community Partnership Award; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
this outstanding company as an expression of high regard from |
|
|
the Texas Senate. |
