SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 638
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Jim Adams, who died June 26, 2006,
at the age of 71; and
       WHEREAS, Jim Adams was a man of vision and foresight
who devoted his professional life to water conservation and
planning, and his work will benefit generations of Texans to
come; and
       WHEREAS, A 1957 graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Adams
served 22 years in the United States Army, including six years of
active service at the height of the Cold War; while stationed in
Germany, he was a photo-reconnaissance pilot and eventually
commanded a battalion as a colonel; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Adams served as general manager of the
San Jacinto River Authority for the last 17 years of his life;
as general manager, his responsibilities included overseeing
the daily operations and maintenance of the authority; he
had previously worked for Houston Lighting and Power,
the engineering firm of Turner Collie and Braden, and the
Harris County Engineering Department; and
       WHEREAS, In addition to his duties with the San Jacinto
River Authority, he served on several other water-related
organizations, including the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation
District, the Texas Water Conservation District, and the Region H
Water Planning Group; he was chairman of the planning group and a
past president of the Texas Water Conservation Association; and
       WHEREAS, A man of strength, determination, and generosity,
he gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
       WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and his family and friends will cherish memories of
his life and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Jim Adams: his wife, Nancy; his children,
Bobby Adams, Julie Singleton, and Jean Byers; and his five
grandchildren; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Jim Adams.
