SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 638
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Jim Adams, who died June 26, 2006, |
|
at the age of 71; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jim Adams was a man of vision and foresight |
|
who devoted his professional life to water conservation and |
|
planning, and his work will benefit generations of Texans to |
|
come; and |
|
WHEREAS, A 1957 graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Adams |
|
served 22 years in the United States Army, including six years of |
|
active service at the height of the Cold War; while stationed in |
|
Germany, he was a photo-reconnaissance pilot and eventually |
|
commanded a battalion as a colonel; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Adams served as general manager of the |
|
San Jacinto River Authority for the last 17 years of his life; |
|
as general manager, his responsibilities included overseeing |
|
the daily operations and maintenance of the authority; he |
|
had previously worked for Houston Lighting and Power, |
|
the engineering firm of Turner Collie and Braden, and the |
|
Harris County Engineering Department; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his duties with the San Jacinto |
|
River Authority, he served on several other water-related |
|
organizations, including the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation |
|
District, the Texas Water Conservation District, and the Region H |
|
Water Planning Group; he was chairman of the planning group and a |
|
past president of the Texas Water Conservation Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of strength, determination, and generosity, |
|
he gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
|
counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and his family and friends will cherish memories of |
|
his life and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of Jim Adams: his wife, Nancy; his children, |
|
Bobby Adams, Julie Singleton, and Jean Byers; and his five |
|
grandchildren; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Jim Adams. |
