SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 649
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of El Paso in mourning the loss of Jackson Valentine Curlin, who
died March 10, 2007, at the age of 90; and
       WHEREAS, Jack Curlin was born March 5, 1917, and grew up in
Waxahachie, where he participated in Boy Scouts and rose to the
rank of Eagle Scout; he obtained an appointment to the United States
Military Academy at West Point, but chose to study and to play
sports at Trinity University and The University of Texas at Austin;
and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Curlin served the nation for more than a
decade with the Federal Bureau of Investigation; he then worked
for nearly 20 years with the El Paso National Bank and became
senior vice president; he served as steward and president of
Price's Producers; and
       WHEREAS, He was a devout Christian who practiced his faith
in his daily life; he was a member of First Presbyterian Church,
where he served as a deacon; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Curlin was active in civic and community
affairs, and some of his activities included serving as a board
member of Providence Memorial Hospital and Southwestern
Children's Home, a campaign chair for the American Cancer Society
El Paso, and a cofounder of the Humanities Alliance at
The University of Texas at El Paso; and
       WHEREAS, A man of varied interests who valued discussion
and debate, Mr. Curlin was committed to integrity and fairness;
and
       WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he will long be remembered with affection and
admiration by all those who were privileged to share in his life;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Jackson Valentine Curlin: his wife of 58
years, Barbara Price Curlin; his children, Jackson, Bruce,
Lorez, and Tom; and his seven grandchildren; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Jackson Valentine Curlin.
