SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 668
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Laredo in mourning the loss of prominent business and civic
leader J.C. "Pepe" Treviño, Jr., who died March 27, 2007, at the
age of 76; and
       WHEREAS, Pepe Treviño was born May 31, 1930; he became a
well-known leader in the Laredo community who worked to improve
the quality of life for all Laredoans by encouraging economic
development, strengthening educational institutions, and
giving generously of his time and resources; and
       WHEREAS, He was president of Southern Enterprises, a
business that was established in 1957; he was involved with
several businesses in both the United States and Mexico and
promoted bilateral relationships; he was a lifetime member of
the board of the Laredo Development Foundation and was a director
for the Laredo National Bank; and
       WHEREAS, He had served as a member of the board of trustees
of Laredo Community College since 1975; he was a member of the
board of directors and principal benefactor of the Boys and Girls
Club of Laredo; and
       WHEREAS, Pepe Treviño was a quiet, unassuming, and
distinguished gentleman who had a positive outlook on life and
was noted for his exceptional intelligence; he was a role model and
philanthropist who shunned recognition for his altruism; he was
recently named Laredoan of the Year by the Laredo Morning Times; and
       WHEREAS, He was devoted to his family, loyal to his
friends, and dedicated to working for the betterment of his
community, and his presence in Laredo will be greatly missed;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
J.C. "Pepe" Treviño, Jr., and extend sincere condolences to
his bereaved family; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
J.C. Treviño, Jr.
