SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 674
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Mayor Michael Hurtt of DeSoto for his many
contributions to the City of DeSoto and the Metroplex area; and
       WHEREAS, A resident of DeSoto for nearly 20 years,
Mayor Hurtt has shown his commitment to public service in many
ways through the years; he was first elected to the city council
to represent Place 5 in 1998 and was chosen by his fellow
councilmembers to serve as Mayor Pro Tem each year from 1998
through 2001; he was elected mayor of DeSoto in 2001 and was
reelected to a second term in 2004; and
       WHEREAS, Mayor Hurtt has served as chairman of the DeSoto
Chamber of Commerce and the Best Southwest Chamber Partnership
and as president of the DeSoto Rotary Club; he also served on the
board of directors for the Dallas Zoological Society and on the
board of trustees for the Medical Center of Lancaster; and
       WHEREAS, Mayor Hurtt has capably represented his
constituents through his participation in numerous local,
regional, and national organizations, including the Texas
Municipal League, the United States Conference of Mayors, and the
National League of Cities; he has been an exemplary
representative for his community and is deserving of recognition
for his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Michael Hurtt for his many
achievements and extend to him best wishes in all his future
endeavors; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
