SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 692

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Michelle Coleman, who has been named the 2007 Distinguished Educator of the Year by the Dallas Theater Center's Project Discovery; and

WHEREAS, A theater arts teacher at Kimball High School, Mrs. Coleman realized early in her career that her students needed to see the power and immediacy of live performance to fully understand the impact of theater; and

WHEREAS, Project Discovery gives young people who might not otherwise get to experience live theater the chance to attend plays for free; over the last two decades, Mrs. Coleman has brought more than 4,000 students to see live theater through the Project Discovery program; and

WHEREAS, An exceptionally resourceful and dedicated educator, Mrs. Coleman is an enthusiastic teacher whose skillful teaching methods inspire her students to continually strive for excellence; and

WHEREAS, Her encouragement and wise counsel cultivate a positive classroom atmosphere where her students feel free to express themselves as theater artists and as people; she is a talented instructor who helps to instill in her students a lifelong love of learning; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend Michelle Coleman for her dedication to her students and extend congratulations to her on being named the 2007 Distinguished Educator of the Year by the Dallas Theater Center's Project Discovery; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. West
