SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 700
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Augie Garrido, the head coach of the Texas Longhorns
baseball team at The University of Texas at Austin, who recently
recorded his 1,600th career victory; and
       WHEREAS, The Longhorns baseball team defeated the Bears of
Baylor University 3-2 on March 16, 2007, to achieve this historic
milestone; Coach Garrido set a record for career wins by a
National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I baseball
coach; and
       WHEREAS, Renowned for pitching and defense, Coach Garrido's
teams have won five College World Series titles; entering Big 12
Conference play, this year's team has added a dynamic offense to
its repertoire and stands poised to make a run at another series
title; and
       WHEREAS, Coach Garrido has guided successful teams for
39 seasons using a perceptive combination of encouragement and
discipline; he is truly deserving of recognition for his
outstanding accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Augie Garrido
for reaching the milestone of 1,600 career victories and extend
to him best wishes for future success; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
