SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 704
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Houston
on the grand occasion of its 90th anniversary, which is being
celebrated April 28, 2007; and
       WHEREAS, The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral has its
roots in a congregation that was formed by a small group of Greek
immigrants in 1917; the original church was located at what is
today Tranquility Park in downtown Houston; the church later
moved to the larger grounds that border Yoakum Boulevard; and
       WHEREAS, Over the years, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox
Cathedral has ministered faithfully to the temporal and
spiritual needs of innumerable people; and
       WHEREAS, Due to the wise stewardship of the founding
immigrants and the clergy and congregations who followed them,
the church has continued to grow and to play a vital role in the
life of the community; and
       WHEREAS, The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral is an
invaluable source of strength for its members during times of
hardship and bereavement and a source of joy during times of
bounty and celebration; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and
members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral on the
joyous occasion of its 90th anniversary; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the church as a memento of this occasion.
