SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 711
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Dr. Buckner Fanning, who is receiving the Lifetime of |
|
Faith and Service Award from Catholic Charities of San Antonio; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Fanning came to San Antonio in 1959 and became |
|
pastor of Trinity Baptist Church; during his 42-year ministry, he |
|
provided enlightenment and hope throughout the San Antonio |
|
community through his inspirational television appearances and |
|
in many other ways; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Fanning is well known for his emphasis on |
|
interdenominational cooperation; in 1985, Trinity Baptist Church |
|
was the only Protestant church in the United States to hold a |
|
prayer service for Pope John Paul II; and |
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of his many contributions, |
|
Dr. Fanning is being honored at the fourth annual Catholic |
|
Charities gala being held May 10, 2007, in San Antonio; he is |
|
truly deserving of recognition for his many achievements; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Buckner Fanning for his many |
|
years of serving the spiritual needs of the San Antonio community |
|
and extend to him congratulations for receiving the Lifetime of |
|
Faith and Service Award from Catholic Charities; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
