SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 711
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Buckner Fanning, who is receiving the Lifetime of
Faith and Service Award from Catholic Charities of San Antonio;
and
       WHEREAS, Dr. Fanning came to San Antonio in 1959 and became
pastor of Trinity Baptist Church; during his 42-year ministry, he
provided enlightenment and hope throughout the San Antonio
community through his inspirational television appearances and
in many other ways; and
       WHEREAS, Dr. Fanning is well known for his emphasis on
interdenominational cooperation; in 1985, Trinity Baptist Church
was the only Protestant church in the United States to hold a
prayer service for Pope John Paul II; and
       WHEREAS, In recognition of his many contributions,
Dr. Fanning is being honored at the fourth annual Catholic
Charities gala being held May 10, 2007, in San Antonio; he is
truly deserving of recognition for his many achievements; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Buckner Fanning for his many
years of serving the spiritual needs of the San Antonio community
and extend to him congratulations for receiving the Lifetime of
Faith and Service Award from Catholic Charities; and, be it
further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
