SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 756
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Chief Yeoman Michael Foy Day on the occasion of his
retirement from the United States Navy after 25 years of faithful
and honorable service to his country; and
       WHEREAS, Michael Foy "John" Day began his active military
career after being involved in the Army Reserve Officers'
Training Corps program at Lubbock Christian University; upon
completing basic training and Yeoman "A" School, he became a
member of an elite SEAL team, and he soon advanced in his career
through a program for exceptionally adapted sailors; and
       WHEREAS, Chief Day assumed many positions of
responsibility during his naval career; he served as petty
officer-in-charge of the Naval Communications Station Command
Color Guard in Scotland, was hand-picked to serve as an Enlisted
Aide to the Commander in Chief, served as a Chief of Protocol
Administration, served as Senior Naval Representative and Unit
Commander for the United States Naval and Marine Corps Element in
Izmir, Turkey, and brought his wealth of talents to many other
vital postings; and
       WHEREAS, Chief Day volunteered for Operation Iraqi Freedom and
served with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq; and
       WHEREAS, He earned numerous awards and citations during
his career, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the
Joint Service Commendation Medal with two bronze oak leaf
clusters, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the War on
Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal,
and the Naval and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold
stars; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Chief Yeoman Michael Foy Day for
his exceptional service to the United States Navy and extend to
him best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it
further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
