SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 772
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
join citizens across the state in celebrating April 14, 2007, as |
|
Pan-American Health Organization Day; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1902 as the International Sanitary |
|
Bureau, the Pan-American Health Organization has worked for more |
|
than 100 years to strengthen national and local health systems |
|
and improve the health of the people of the Americas; and |
|
WHEREAS, This exemplary organization promotes primary |
|
health-care strategies and works to reduce the incidence of |
|
infant mortality, improve the safety of blood, and reduce the use |
|
of tobacco; it played a major role in the eradication of smallpox |
|
and polio in the Americas; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Pan-American Health Organization has made |
|
improved access to health care for the poor one of its chief |
|
priorities; the organization trains health workers at all levels |
|
and disseminates information through its publications program; |
|
people throughout the Americas have received better health care |
|
through the enduring efforts of this invaluable organization; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend the Pan-American Health |
|
Organization for its long history of improving the health and |
|
living standards of the people of the Americas and join the |
|
people of Texas in celebrating April 14, 2007, as Pan-American |
|
Health Organization Day; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
this outstanding organization as an expression of high regard |
|
from the Texas Senate. |
