SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 772
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join citizens across the state in celebrating April 14, 2007, as
Pan-American Health Organization Day; and
       WHEREAS, Established in 1902 as the International Sanitary
Bureau, the Pan-American Health Organization has worked for more
than 100 years to strengthen national and local health systems
and improve the health of the people of the Americas; and
       WHEREAS, This exemplary organization promotes primary
health-care strategies and works to reduce the incidence of
infant mortality, improve the safety of blood, and reduce the use
of tobacco; it played a major role in the eradication of smallpox
and polio in the Americas; and
       WHEREAS, The Pan-American Health Organization has made
improved access to health care for the poor one of its chief
priorities; the organization trains health workers at all levels
and disseminates information through its publications program;
people throughout the Americas have received better health care
through the enduring efforts of this invaluable organization;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend the Pan-American Health
Organization for its long history of improving the health and
living standards of the people of the Americas and join the
people of Texas in celebrating April 14, 2007, as Pan-American
Health Organization Day; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this outstanding organization as an expression of high regard
from the Texas Senate.
