SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 787
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Judge Santiago "Jimmy" Martinez for his many years |
|
|
of service to the citizens of Bee County; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Beeville, Judge Martinez |
|
|
began his career in public service in 1970 when he was elected |
|
|
to the first of his terms on the Beeville City Council; he later |
|
|
served as administrative assistant to State Senator Carlos Truan; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1984, he became the first Hispanic to be |
|
|
elected Bee County commissioner, Precinct 3, and in 1995, he |
|
|
was unanimously appointed county judge by the four members of |
|
|
Bee County Commissioners Court; with hard work and determination, |
|
|
he soon made the position of county judge into a full-time post; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under his exemplary leadership, Beeville and |
|
|
Bee County have grown and prospered; as a city councilman, he was |
|
|
instrumental in helping secure more than $5 million in urban |
|
|
renewal funding for Beeville; as a commissioner and a county |
|
|
judge, he has played a major role in many important projects, |
|
|
including the courthouse restoration and the construction of the |
|
|
new county jail; he organized the first Tri-County Coalition and |
|
|
secured funding for a Super Two highway; he also organized the |
|
|
first Bee County Judge and Mayor Task Force; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of wisdom, foresight, and commitment, |
|
|
Judge Martinez has worked hard for the people of Bee County, |
|
|
and he is truly deserving of recognition for his many |
|
|
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Judge Santiago Martinez for |
|
|
his dedication to the citizens of Bee County and extend to him |
|
|
best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
