SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 795
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Dr. Lawrence B. Harkless, who is retiring from |
|
|
The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio |
|
|
after 30 years of loyal service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Lawrence Harkless has served as the |
|
|
Louis T. Bogy Professor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in the |
|
|
Department of Orthopaedics, Podiatry Division, since 1987; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native Texan, he graduated from the California |
|
|
College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco; he completed his |
|
|
internship at The University of Texas Health Science Center at |
|
|
San Antonio and his residency in podiatric surgery at the Atlanta |
|
|
Hospital and Medical Center in Georgia; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, At the University of Texas Health Science Center |
|
|
at San Antonio, Dr. Harkless has served as chair of the Medical |
|
|
Faculty Assembly and has directed the Podiatric Residency |
|
|
Training Program; he has trained approximately 1,000 students |
|
|
and 165 residents while maintaining his private practice, the |
|
|
Alamo Foot Clinic; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle |
|
|
Surgeons, Dr. Harkless is a founding member of the American |
|
|
Diabetes Association Council on Foot Care and a past member of |
|
|
its board of directors; he is also past president of the National |
|
|
Podiatric Medical Association and the Texas Podiatric Medical |
|
|
Association; he was recently inducted as a Distinguished |
|
|
Practitioner in the National Academics of Practice; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He has received the Outstanding Educator in |
|
|
Diabetes Award from the American Diabetes Association, the |
|
|
Distinguished Service Citation from the American Podiatric |
|
|
Medical Association, the President's Excellence Award in |
|
|
Teaching from The University of Texas Health Science Center at |
|
|
San Antonio, the Lifetime Achievement Award and Hall of Fame from |
|
|
Podiatry Management Magazine, and a place on the Wall of Honor at |
|
|
the Texas Diabetes Institute; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An accomplished physician and highly regarded |
|
|
educator, Dr. Lawrence Harkless has made many contributions in the |
|
|
field of podiatric medicine, and his presence at the Podiatry |
|
|
Division of the Department of Orthopaedics at The University of Texas |
|
|
Health Science Center at San Antonio will be greatly missed; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Lawrence B. Harkless for his |
|
|
years of exemplary service at The University of Texas Health |
|
|
Science Center at San Antonio and extend to him best wishes in all |
|
|
his future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
