SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 802
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Thurmond Bernard Woodard, who died |
|
April 4, 2007, at the age of 58; and |
|
WHEREAS, Thurmond Woodard was born in Ocala, Florida, on |
|
January 9, 1949; he graduated with a bachelor's degree in |
|
accounting from Hampton University in 1970, and he pursued a |
|
graduate degree at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, He was vice president for global diversity and |
|
the chief ethics, privacy, and compliance officer for Dell, |
|
Incorporated; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was previously president and chief operating |
|
officer for Atlanta-based R. Thomas Consulting and Training, |
|
Incorporated; he also served as vice president and general |
|
manager of an international division of Flexel, Incorporated, |
|
and spent 17 years at Johnson Wax serving as director of finance |
|
in Europe and as a general manager in the Caribbean; and |
|
WHEREAS, Thurmond served on the board of trustees of |
|
Huston-Tillotson University and on the boards for the |
|
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the Ethics and Compliance |
|
Officers Association, and Catalyst; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devout Christian and a member of |
|
David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a |
|
deacon and a Sunday school teacher and led Crown Financial |
|
Ministries with his wife; and |
|
WHEREAS, During his 30-year career in finance, marketing, |
|
and human resources, he became a mentor, counselor, and valuable |
|
friend to many individuals; he made an enduring commitment to |
|
fostering a culture of respect and harmony among his peers and |
|
his colleagues, and he leaves behind a legacy of inclusion and |
|
collaboration; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he will |
|
continue to live in the hearts and minds of those he left behind; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of Thurmond Bernard Woodard: his loving wife of |
|
37 years, Suzanne; his children, Michelynn "Miki" and Derek; and |
|
his sister, Towanna Comer; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the |
|
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it |
|
do so in memory of Thurmond Bernard Woodard. |
