SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 802
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Thurmond Bernard Woodard, who died
April 4, 2007, at the age of 58; and
       WHEREAS, Thurmond Woodard was born in Ocala, Florida, on
January 9, 1949; he graduated with a bachelor's degree in
accounting from Hampton University in 1970, and he pursued a
graduate degree at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee;
and
       WHEREAS, He was vice president for global diversity and
the chief ethics, privacy, and compliance officer for Dell,
Incorporated; and
       WHEREAS, He was previously president and chief operating
officer for Atlanta-based R. Thomas Consulting and Training,
Incorporated; he also served as vice president and general
manager of an international division of Flexel, Incorporated,
and spent 17 years at Johnson Wax serving as director of finance
in Europe and as a general manager in the Caribbean; and
       WHEREAS, Thurmond served on the board of trustees of
Huston-Tillotson University and on the boards for the
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the Ethics and Compliance
Officers Association, and Catalyst; and
       WHEREAS, He was a devout Christian and a member of
David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a
deacon and a Sunday school teacher and led Crown Financial
Ministries with his wife; and
       WHEREAS, During his 30-year career in finance, marketing,
and human resources, he became a mentor, counselor, and valuable
friend to many individuals; he made an enduring commitment to
fostering a culture of respect and harmony among his peers and
his colleagues, and he leaves behind a legacy of inclusion and
collaboration; and
       WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he will
continue to live in the hearts and minds of those he left behind;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Thurmond Bernard Woodard:  his loving wife of
37 years, Suzanne; his children, Michelynn "Miki" and Derek; and
his sister, Towanna Comer; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
do so in memory of Thurmond Bernard Woodard.
