SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 804
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Robert M. Capello, Sr., for his many years of coaching
excellence; and
       WHEREAS, Head basketball coach at Edcouch-Elsa High School,
Coach Capello has amassed 920 career victories; and
       WHEREAS, A 1960 graduate of Edcouch-Elsa High School, he
led the football team to a perfect 10-0 record as quarterback and
was named to the all-state team; he earned degrees from Texas A&I
College, Sam Houston State University, and Sul Ross State
University; and
       WHEREAS, Coach Capello began his coaching and teaching career
at Mission High School in 1965; he coached at Barbers Hill High
School, Lyford High School, Donna High School, Thomas Jefferson
High School in Port Arthur, and Uvalde High School before returning
to coach the Yellow Jackets at his alma mater; and
       WHEREAS, Coach Capello's basketball teams have made state
playoff appearances 20 times in the last 25 seasons and have won
seven district championships in the last eight years; he has been
named district coach of the year 10 times, and he has twice been
selected as Rio Grande Valley Coach of the Year; and
       WHEREAS, Coach Capello has influenced generations of young
athletes, imbuing his teams with the importance of discipline,
perseverance, and sportsmanship; on May 14, 2005, in recognition
of his many contributions, the gymnasium at Edcouch-Elsa High School
was dedicated in his honor and named the Robert Capello, Sr.,
Gymnasium; he truly deserves recognition for his many achievements;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Robert M. Capello, Sr., on his
outstanding accomplishments and extend to him best wishes in all
his future endeavors; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
