SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 818
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Temple College, which recently won a Bellwether Award
for innovation in workforce development; and
       WHEREAS, The Bellwether Award is presented by the
Community College Futures Assembly, which convenes annually as
an independent national policy forum to identify issues facing
community colleges and to recognize Bellwether finalist colleges
as trend-setting institutions; and
       WHEREAS, Temple College won this prestigious award, known
as the Heisman Trophy of community college awards, for creating
its innovative Texas Bioscience Institute; due to the
collaboration between Temple College, the Texas A&M College of
Medicine, Scott and White Hospital, the Bioscience District, the
Reinvestment Zone, and local school districts, the institute is
now a state-of-the-art facility with high-quality staff; and
       WHEREAS, The Temple College Texas Bioscience Institute is
now being praised as a highly impressive program, and building on
its success and its Bellwether Award, Temple College will
continue to refine and improve the program and allow it to grow,
reaching out to more students who are interested in
biotechnology; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Temple College for its
outstanding and innovative work and extend congratulations to
the college for winning the Bellwether Award; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
