SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 867

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the work of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Texas and Father J.C. Cain at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Austin; and

WHEREAS, The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate were founded in France in 1816 by Blessed Eugene de Mazenod; their Texas mission began in 1849 with five Oblate priests and has grown to serve more than 90 counties in all parts of Texas; and

WHEREAS, The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate have done outstanding work in Texas; Father J.C. Cain graduated from Saint Mary's University with a bachelor's degree in biology, and he joined the congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1984; during his seminary training, Father Cain worked in Mexico and Central America when not studying at Oblate School of Theology; and

WHEREAS, Upon completion of his seminary studies, Father Cain worked in Zambia for 10 years as a priest and missionary; he has for six years been the pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where he has devoted his time and energy generously to the members of his parish; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate for their outstanding work throughout Texas and extend best wishes to Father J.C. Cain in all his future endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Father Cain and for the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
