SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 876
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Miguel R. Ramirez for his many years of community
service in San Antonio; and
       WHEREAS, Miguel Ramirez has been a leader in his community
since 1956, when he was 28 years old and lived at the corner of
El Paso and San Horacio Streets; the mail service stopped at the
end of the street, and people living on his street were not always
receiving their mail; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez was directed to the local postmaster,
who told him to collect 100 signatures and the delivery service
could be extended to his street; although he only managed to
obtain 70 signatures, the postmaster agreed to extend mail
service to the street because of Mr. Ramirez's hard work; and
       WHEREAS, He continued to serve his community by assisting
people with job training, shelter, food, and medical care; he
organized and served on the community council, and he was
involved with bringing health clinics to Palo Alto and
Villa Coronado; and
       WHEREAS, A highly respected and distinguished citizen of
San Antonio, Miguel Ramirez has demonstrated his commitment to
service and worked diligently for the betterment of his
community; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Miguel R. Ramirez for his
achievements and his many contributions to his community; and, be
it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
