SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 878
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Stefanie Paloma Solar of Houston, who recently
received a 2007 Rising Latina Leader Award from the League of
United Latin American Citizens; and
       WHEREAS, Although she is only 17 years old, Stefanie has
established herself as a role model for others to follow; and
       WHEREAS, Stefanie serves as a tutor for bilingual
elementary school children as a Teach for America volunteer, and
she works with Amigos de las Americas, an organization that
promotes public health, education, and community development;
last summer, she worked in Uruguay, where she helped to build a
community health care clinic; and
       WHEREAS, Stefanie raised $30,000 by organizing a dinner
and silent auction benefit for students at Saint Agnes Academy
who had been displaced by Hurricane Katrina; the benefit directly
assisted 80 students who were Katrina evacuees; and
       WHEREAS, Stefanie's energy, enthusiasm, and selfless
commitment to others have established her as a leader among her
peers; she is truly deserving of recognition for her many
contributions to her community; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Stefanie Paloma Solar on her
many achievements and extend congratulations to her on receiving
a 2007 Rising Latina Leader Award; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
