SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 882
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Sergeant Ryan Patrick Green, who died on |
|
|
March 18, 2007, at the age of 24, while serving in Iraq; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ryan Green was a patriotic American who joined the |
|
|
United States Army the day after September 11, 2001; he attended |
|
|
boot camp at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was stationed in Hawaii |
|
|
until he was deployed to Afghanistan; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After he returned from Afghanistan, he reenlisted |
|
|
and was stationed at Fort Hood; a member of the 1st Cavalry |
|
|
Division, he was deployed to Iraq on October 22, 2006; he died |
|
|
from injuries he received while on patrol with his unit in |
|
|
Baghdad; he was presented the Purple Heart before he died; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ryan was a popular student at Caney Creek High |
|
|
School, where he was known for his charismatic personality and |
|
|
school spirit; he participated in the choir and played on the |
|
|
football team; he was active with the youth group at The Ark |
|
|
Family Church and had planned to become a pastor before he felt |
|
|
called to serve his country; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sergeant Green was a brave soldier who served his |
|
|
country faithfully and courageously; his devotion to duty and |
|
|
selfless service demonstrate his steadfast resolve and loyalty; |
|
|
this state and our nation are eternally grateful for his service |
|
|
and saddened by the loss of this exceptional young man; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
|
Ryan Patrick Green and extend sincere condolences to his |
|
|
bereaved family; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the |
|
|
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do |
|
|
so in memory of Ryan Patrick Green. |
