SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 882
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Sergeant Ryan Patrick Green, who died on
March 18, 2007, at the age of 24, while serving in Iraq; and
       WHEREAS, Ryan Green was a patriotic American who joined the
United States Army the day after September 11, 2001; he attended
boot camp at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was stationed in Hawaii
until he was deployed to Afghanistan; and
       WHEREAS, After he returned from Afghanistan, he reenlisted
and was stationed at Fort Hood; a member of the 1st Cavalry
Division, he was deployed to Iraq on October 22, 2006; he died
from injuries he received while on patrol with his unit in
Baghdad; he was presented the Purple Heart before he died; and
       WHEREAS, Ryan was a popular student at Caney Creek High
School, where he was known for his charismatic personality and
school spirit; he participated in the choir and played on the
football team; he was active with the youth group at The Ark
Family Church and had planned to become a pastor before he felt
called to serve his country; and
       WHEREAS, Sergeant Green was a brave soldier who served his
country faithfully and courageously; his devotion to duty and
selfless service demonstrate his steadfast resolve and loyalty;
this state and our nation are eternally grateful for his service
and saddened by the loss of this exceptional young man; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Ryan Patrick Green and extend sincere condolences to his
bereaved family; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Ryan Patrick Green.
