SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 885
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Shannon Medical Center on the occasion of its |
|
|
75th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Shannon Medical Center was founded in 1932 |
|
|
as the Shannon West Texas Memorial Hospital and Shannon School |
|
|
of Nursing as the result of a trust established in the will of |
|
|
Margaret Shannon, the pioneering wife of West Texas rancher |
|
|
J.M. Shannon; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, the Shannon Medical Center |
|
|
has led the way in medical breakthroughs for the people of the |
|
|
Concho Valley; among many other advances, the hospital had the |
|
|
first linear accelerators for cancer treatment and the first |
|
|
ventilators to sustain breathing in premature and critically |
|
|
ill newborns; the hospital now offers a CT scanner, which |
|
|
displays an image of the heart with unparalleled resolution; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, the boundaries of J.M. and Margaret Shannon's |
|
|
early vision have grown to meet the challenges of providing |
|
|
21st century health care and earning the trust of West Texans |
|
|
as a leader in health and wellness; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, One of the only true integrated health care |
|
|
delivery systems in the nation, Shannon Medical Center has |
|
|
improved the lives of the citizens of the Concho Valley; this |
|
|
inestimable institution deserves recognition for its many |
|
|
contributions to the quality of life for the citizens of West Texas; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend the Shannon Medical Center |
|
|
for 75 years of serving the health care needs of the people of |
|
|
San Angelo and the Concho Valley and extend best wishes for a |
|
|
memorable 75th anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as |
|
|
a memento of this special day from the Texas Senate. |
