SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 888
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Marcus High School marching band, which recently |
|
|
won the Class 5A University Interscholastic League state |
|
|
championship title; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The 280-member band captured the title in their |
|
|
second appearance at the state competition; they entered the |
|
|
final day in fourth place but swept past their opponents by |
|
|
finishing first on four of the five judges' ballots; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These young musicians have exhibited great talent |
|
|
and perseverance throughout the school year; their show, "The |
|
|
Choral Reef: Voices from Beneath the Sea," features a variety |
|
|
of sea-themed mechanical props used by the colorguard; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Drum majors Daniel Bloss and Sarah Ballard and |
|
|
assistant drum major Alex Welsh have shown outstanding dedication |
|
|
and leadership skills; under the superior professionalism and |
|
|
expertise of band director Amanda Drinkwater and associate |
|
|
directors David Simon, Dominic Talanca, and Kennan Wylie, and |
|
|
with the assistance of colorguard instructor Mike Blade, the |
|
|
band has developed exceptional teamwork and discipline; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The faculty and staff of Marcus High School and |
|
|
the parents of the marching band members have supported the band |
|
|
and are proud of them for their hard work, their diligence, and |
|
|
their commitment to excellence; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the Marcus |
|
|
High School marching band on winning the Class 5A University |
|
|
Interscholastic League state championship title; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
