SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 890
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Guillermo "Willie" R. Serrano, who died
April 2, 2007, at the age of 82; and
       WHEREAS, Willie Serrano was born June 25, 1924, in Del Rio;
a veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army
as a combat engineer in Company B of the 44th Engineer Regiment,
led by General Omar Bradley; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Serrano was captured after the Battle of the
Bulge and was an American prisoner of war; a highly trained and
courageous soldier, he received four Bronze Stars and a Purple
Heart; he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a
lifelong member of the American Legion Post 595; and
       WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and compassion,
he gave generously to others, and his wisdom and valued counsel
will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
       WHEREAS, He was beloved by his family and friends, and he
will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to have
known him; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Guillermo R. Serrano: his wife of 60 years,
Oralia P. Serrano; his sons and daughters-in-law,
Frank and Lori Perez, Guillermo R. Serrano, Sr., and Maria,
Juan M. Serrano, Leonel Serrano, Raul and Rosetta Serrano,
and David Serrano; his daughters and sons-in-law,
Sylvia and William Hosbrough and Hilda S. and Jose Luis Garza;
his brothers, Trinidad Reyes Serrano and Steve Serrano; and his
20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Guillermo R. Serrano.
