SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 896
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Sunny M. Shelley on the occasion of her retirement from |
|
|
the Amherst Independent School District after 33 years of service |
|
|
in education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sunny Shelley has been the librarian and Spanish |
|
|
facilitator in the Amherst Independent School District since |
|
|
1989; she previously held positions as a librarian and an |
|
|
instructional aide in several school districts; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She attended McMurry College in Abilene and |
|
|
West Texas A&M University; she received certification as a |
|
|
paraprofessional and educational aide from the Texas Education |
|
|
Agency and held memberships in the Texas Association of Community |
|
|
Schools and the Texas Rural Educators Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She has been active with the Amherst Chamber of |
|
|
Commerce and Agriculture since 1989 and served on the board of |
|
|
directors from 1995 until 1998; she also served as president, |
|
|
secretary/treasurer, and historian for the Amherst Chapter of |
|
|
the Parent-Teacher Organization; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1996 she was named Citizen of the Year by the |
|
|
Amherst Chamber of Commerce and was named Booster of the Year for |
|
|
1993 through 1994 by the Amherst Bulldog Athletic Booster Club; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her career in education, Sunny Shelley |
|
|
has shown special dedication to her students; her concern for the |
|
|
individual and her wise counsel and encouragement have inspired |
|
|
generations of young people, and her presence in the Amherst |
|
|
Independent School System will be greatly missed; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Sunny M. Shelley for her many |
|
|
contributions to the educational system of this state and extend |
|
|
to her best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
