SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 898
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Dallas Black Dance Theatre on the auspicious |
|
|
occasion of its 30th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The oldest continuously operating professional |
|
|
dance company in Dallas, the Dallas Black Dance Theatre employs |
|
|
a diverse, multiethnic troupe of dancers performing works by some |
|
|
of the world's foremost choreographers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the outstanding direction of its founder |
|
|
and artistic director, Ann M. Williams, the Dallas Black Dance |
|
|
Theatre strives to create and produce contemporary modern dance |
|
|
at the highest level of artistic excellence through performances |
|
|
and educational programs that bridge cultures and reach diverse |
|
|
communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Dallas Black Dance Theatre has performed |
|
|
throughout the nation and around the world and is widely |
|
|
recognized for its creative capabilities; the company was |
|
|
commissioned by the Gershwin family to create a new dance |
|
|
production of Porgy and Bess, set to the jazz of Miles Davis; the |
|
|
dance company has collaborated with such diverse entities as the |
|
|
Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the |
|
|
Dallas Bach Society to craft new works; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Dallas Black Dance Theatre will celebrate |
|
|
this special occasion with a 30th Anniversary Gala Series to be |
|
|
held May 18 and 19, 2007, at the Majestic Theatre; the company is |
|
|
truly deserving of recognition for its many accomplishments; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend the Dallas Black Dance Theatre |
|
|
for its history of innovation and artistic excellence and extend |
|
|
best wishes for a memorable 30th anniversary celebration; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared |
|
|
for the company as an expression of high regard from the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
