SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 906

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Texas A&M University--Commerce women's basketball team for an outstanding 2006-2007 season; and

WHEREAS, The team's fine performance over the season included many firsts: Lone Star Conference North Division title, Lone Star Conference Tournament title, National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament appearance, National Collegiate Athletic Association Regional Championship, and an Elite Eight appearance; it was also the first time for the team to make the USA Today-ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, jumping from unranked to 13th; and

WHEREAS, The team set 40 school records, including six individual-game marks, three single-game marks, nine individual single-season marks, 14 team single-season marks, and eight career records; the team had a single-season record of 28 wins; and

WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of head coach Denny Downing, who was named the Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, and the able support of assistant coach LaToya Howell, student assistant coach Raymond Yeater, and athletic trainer Kjerstin Gardner, the Lions developed remarkable teamwork and discipline; and

WHEREAS, The players on the Texas A&M University--Commerce women's basketball team were Tarika Campbell, Dominee Evans, Alicia Johnson, Britney Jordan, Kanani Marshal, Dawn Montgomery, Katedria Mosley, Porshe Revely, and Tradawn Short, all of whom gave splendid performances individually and as a team; and

WHEREAS, The Texas A&M University--Commerce Athletic Department and the community can be justifiably proud of the members of the women's basketball team for their hard work, their impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend the coaches and players of the Texas A&M University--Commerce women's basketball team for their excellent accomplishments during the 2006-2007 season and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. Deuell
