SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 925
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Edwin Heckmann, Sr., for his perseverance and
commitment in pursuit of the American Dream; and
       WHEREAS, Edwin Heckmann was born to German immigrant
parents in Beasley in 1924; he learned from a young age the
necessity of hard work; when his parents became unable to work
the family farm, the responsibility fell upon 14-year-old Edwin
to tend to the crops to support his family; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Heckmann married Lonie Mae Engelhardt in
1945, and the couple worked the farm together; when times became
difficult, they took jobs on the side and worked the fields in the
evenings and on weekends; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Heckmann raised three children, with
everyone doing their part to make the farm a success; today, due
to Mr. Heckmann's hard work and inspiration, the farm is more
successful than ever, with three generations of the family
bringing in record-setting yields; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Edwin Heckmann, Sr., for his
devotion to the tradition of the family farm and for his many
achievements and extend to him best wishes in all his future
endeavors; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
