SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 933

WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes pride in recognizing May 1, 2007, as National Law Day in Texas; and

WHEREAS, Law Day is a celebration of our great heritage of liberty, justice, and equality under law for all and is a day set aside for recognizing the invaluable role of law in American life; and

WHEREAS, This year's Law Day theme of "Liberty Under Law: Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy" encourages citizens to make certain that our nation's young people are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively make their voices heard within our democracy; all young people need to understand their rights and responsibilities under the law to become effective participants in our nation's civic life; and

WHEREAS, Law Day of 2007 also focuses on the many challenges facing American teens today, on helping young people to better understand the legal system, on making courts that address youth and family issues an exemplary part of the judicial system, and on encouraging the legal profession to engage in activities that aid youths who are most at risk; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby encourage citizens, schools, and businesses to celebrate National Law Day in Texas and recognize the importance of educating and equipping our youth with the skills to effectively participate in our democracy and the knowledge to appreciate the freedoms guaranteed to us by the due process of law; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of National Law Day in Texas. Watson
