SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 938
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased |
|
to recognize Russell K. Tolman, president and chief executive |
|
officer of Cook Children's Health Care System, for his 25 years |
|
of exceptional leadership after joining the organization on |
|
April 2, 1982; and |
|
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mr. Tolman has overseen the |
|
assembly of medical talent at Cook Children's Health Care System |
|
and has watched it grow from 12 pediatric specialists to more |
|
than 220; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Tolman placed an emphasis on nursing excellence |
|
throughout his tenure, and with the attainment of magnet status, |
|
Cook Children's Health Care System is now in the top three percent |
|
nationally in nursing; and |
|
WHEREAS, Other than the Administration Building and the |
|
Easter Seals Building, the entire medical center campus was built |
|
with Mr. Tolman's direction; under Mr. Tolman's leadership, the |
|
total combined revenue grew from $25 million annually in 1982 to |
|
over $800 million; the number of employees increased from 350 staff |
|
members to 3,800, and endowments multiplied from $27 million to |
|
$430 million; and |
|
WHEREAS, Due to Mr. Tolman's stewardship, Cook Children's |
|
Health Care System is about to achieve its goal, which is to |
|
establish a national reputation for the organization of community |
|
wide pediatric health services and the delivery of patient-centered |
|
clinical care; and |
|
WHEREAS, Russell Tolman and his wife, Lizbeth, plan on |
|
retiring in Utah and spending time with their four sons and their |
|
wives and with their beloved grandchildren; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Russell Tolman on his outstanding |
|
leadership as president and chief executive officer of Cook |
|
Children's Health Care System and extend best wishes to him for |
|
the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him |
|
as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
